Employer Feature: How Vancity Champions Indigenous, Black and Trans Candidates
Building an Inclusive Future at Vancity
At Vancity, inclusion isn’t just a value; it’s how we work. As a member-owned credit union, we’ve spent decades challenging systemic barriers and creating opportunities for historically excluded communities.
From Reconciliation initiatives to anti-racism pledges and six employee resource groups, our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and Reconciliation is woven into everything we do.
One of our recent efforts is the Talent Programs Initiative, a program designed to increase equitable access to jobs, training and career growth for Indigenous, Black, and Trans individuals.
Removing Barriers and Creating Equitable Pathways
Approved under BC’s Special Programs by the Office of the Human Rights Commissioner, the Talent Programs Initiative reflects our belief that diversity makes us stronger.
We know systemic barriers in hiring still exist across roles and industries. Indigenous, Black, and Trans candidates often face inequities that limit their access to meaningful employment. And these barriers aren’t just about skills, they’re about networks, representation, and confidence. The Talent Programs Initiative is one way we’re working to dismantle those barriers and create pathways for success.
Setting Clear Leadership Diversity Goals
Vancity is committed to achieving a leadership team that reflects our community. By 2025, our Board and senior management are expected to include at least 40 percent Indigenous, Black, racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+, and disabled leaders.

A Key Element of Vancity’s Equity Strategy

This integrated, values-based approach ensures our actions align with real community needs and long-term equity goals.
